Water

"Water Saver for Green" Product Kickstarter Program Begins!

water saver 3When watering plants, the water can often flow away from the plant before the roots can absorb the water. Overwatering of the plant can then occur, increasing water consumption over extgended periods of time. Some locations in the world are highly susceptible to drought conditions and overusing water can be problematic. It can often take a considerable amount of time to water plants, especially if too much water flows away from the plant and more water is needed to complete the watering.

Home Depot, Lowe's, and Orchard Supplysell millions of plant and trees each year. People plant these trees and plants in the yards and water them by using garden hoses. The Water Saver for Green product can be used with each of planted tree or plant and can save a tremendous amount of water for the home owner.

How This Product Will Win Customers

Water Saver for Green is a water containment device that helps hold water underneath plantgs, ensuring that the plant is properly maintained and healthy over long periods of time. The device helps prevent water from running away from the plant before the plant has had the chance to absorb nutrients.

Water-Energy Nexus With Nanotechnology

A Selected Video Hosted By Mei-Ling Shek

pixabay drops of water 578897 180The science of nanomaterials is opening up an exciting number of new methods of solving many problems. In todays meeting, we will show a video of a presentation made by Professor Yi Cui at the Stanford Energy Seminar on February 29, 2016. Yi Cui will provide us with a look into his exploration of using nanomaterials for water related applications such as desalination, desalination batteries, sea water batteries, microbial fuel cells and microbial batteries.

Join in for this exciting look into our future!

Important SCVWD Board Meeting on April 7, 2016

pixabay bridge 67773 180The battle to save the California Delta continues. Unfortunately we have to spend our time battling rather than spending time on real solutions. There is going to be an important meeting at the Santa Clara Valley Water District (SCVWD) facility on Almaden Expressway on April 7, 2016. The regular Board meeting will begin at 10am and a working meeting with the San Luis Delta Mendota Water Authority will begin at 11:30am. Everybody who is interesting in helping to prevent the Delta Tunnels being built should attend this meeting. The more rate payers that show up to express their opposition to this plan the more the SCVWD board will realize that the Tunnels Plan is not a good thing.

The information regarding this meeting was not available at SCVWD's website yet, but there will be a public meeting at this location and many folks including the Restore the Delta organization and their supporters will be there.

Check out the Restore the Delta website for more information and details on the meeting and the overall effort to stop the Delta Tunnel Plan.

Fracking - Why the Oil and Gas Industry Received an Exemption to the Clean Water Act

A Presentation By Tony Green

dreamstime xs FrackingWell48873160Natural gas production is at an all-time high which has led to the lowest gas prices in a generation. Many suspect the United States will eventually be the world’s largest exporter of Natural Gas. The process of Hydraulic Fracturing has been one of the primary reasons for the abundant supply of natural gas.

The Oil and Gas industry received an exemption to the Clean Water Act in 2005 which is referred to as the Halliburton Loophole. It permits the oil industry not to disclose the content of the chemicals used to extract gas from shale formations. Fracking chemicals are said to be comprised of a toxic mix of over 600 chemicals, many of them are referenced in the Safe Water Drinking Act.

In this presentation I will discuss further what fracking chemicals are composed of and how this would lead to the oil industry needing an exemption and the implication this has for all Americans, especially those living in close proximity of fracking wells. I will cover questions such as:

  • What has driven the increase in the reliance on natural gas?
  • How did the oil and gas industries receive an exemption to the Clean Water Act?
  • Why are hazardous chemicals are needed to extract natural gas in shale deposits?
  • The components in fracking fluids have caused concerns about our water.
  • Why fracking is here to stay.

California Water Issues and Desalination Overview

A Video Presentation Day Hosted by Rod Kirk

water drops pixabayIn todays meeting, we will take a look at several videos which cover California's water issues and various solutions including ocean water desalination. There seems to be some progress in working towards a solution but not everybody is on board. There are conflicting interests (central valley agriculture, ecologists, and urban dwellers) with ongoing heated battle by the various stakeholders as to which solution makes the most sense. The selected videos will cover the array of issues and various solutions and what is being done today. This will be a great session to fill your mind with ideas and pointers to further exploration and research on this important topic.

Please join us for this interesting and informative video session.
